The word "generation" means "a time period in which we live." A second meaning for "generation" applies to those events stirred up by those living in that time.

Here are some of my thoughts, and the thoughts of others, about the second meaning: "generating events." Or, in short, what we do with our time.

"We are all pencils in the hands of God."

- Mother Teresa of Calcutta

Being "pencils" and not "ink pens" means that if we make a mistake, then by the grace of God our mistake can be erased, and we can start afresh. However, the erasure is by the will of Christ, through our faith. In His eyes, our slate is thus "washed clean," and no record of our mistake remains. Yet, the consequences of our mistake does remain, and we must "reap the whirlwind." This is the meaning of "taking responsibility."

On the other hand, the "ink pen" of these consequences is what is meant by the following:

The moving finger writes, and having writ
Moves on. Nor all thy piety nor wit
Shall lure it back, nor all thy tears
Wash out a word of it.

--Omar Khayyam, The Rubaiyat

Someone else once said:

"What goes around comes around."

Jesus expressed the "golden rule" in this way:

"All things whatever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them; for this is the law and the prophets."

--Matthew Ch. 7, v. 12,The Holy Bible

St. Paul said it like this:

"Whatever a man soweth, that shall he also reap."

--Galatians Ch. 6, v. 7, The Holy Bible

Science expresses this rule as a law in the "second law of thermodynamics":

"Every action has an equal and opposite reaction."

No matter how it might be expressed, it is a law of the universe, mandated by God. Unlike man-made laws, it cannot be reversed or amended.

This is true of individual actions. And it applies equally to the conception and birth of those individuals who act. In other words, when a person is born, he or she has a destiny to fulfill, mandated by the Will of God. Each person's life is important. It may be ended, but it can never be reversed or erased.

It is my hope that, in sharing this genealogical study, each life of those herein named also will be remembered.
