This is Volume II of A History of the Adams Family in Texas and Arizona. It is entitled A Chronicle of the Plains, and contains several narrative sections, including memoirs, copies of letters and other documents, poems, some historical notes, and photographs.

The purpose here is to provide family members with some vivid descriptions of the times and conditions of our ancestors' lives, and to illustrate graphically much of the genealogy summarized in Volume I.

These fragments of light penetrating into the shadows of our past will, I hope, help illuminate the drama of the Adams' meanderings over the plains of Texas, southern Oklahoma, eastern New Mexico, southeastern Arizona-and even to the hills and shores of California-during the formative years of our young society in the late Nineteenth, throughout the Twentieth, and into the early Twenty-first centuries.
